Railings and Accessories

Cameron Bridge Works recommends that all bridges receive a railing system (safety rails, hand rails, rub rails, cable rail, pickets, ornamental rails, or fencing). The rail system can serve various purposes: pedestrian/vehicular safety, prevents items and debris from dropping off of the bridge, preserve structural integrity of the bridge, and for architectural preference.

BASIC SAFETY RAIL WITH TOE PLATE: A barrier that protects vehicular and pedestrian safety throughout the length of a structure. A toe plate provides additional saftey to prevent (a persons foot) from accidentally slipping off the edge of the deck.
PICKETS: Pickets are a popular option that gives a distinct look to a bridge. Protects vehicular and pedestrian safety.
HANDRAIL: Handrails are ADA compliant and are suitable for a bridge with a lot of pedestrian traffic and minimum vehicular traffic. Protects pedestrian safety.
CABLE RAIL: Cable is quite suitable for railing given it's high tensile strength and is virtually maintenance free. It is a good choice to minimize the obstruction of view through the railing on a bridge or where a sleek and modern look is desired.
RUB RAIL: A rub rail is used to protect against rubbing and damage by gliding contact, such as a bicycle passing through a bridge.
FENCING: Protecting vehicular and pedestrian safety. Preventing items or debris from falling off of the bridge, especially important when there is a roadway or railways underneath a bridge or if a bridge is placed as an overpass.
ORNAMENTAL RAILING: Bridges often are at the entrance to a city or a town. Ornamental railings provide an aesthetically pleasing, eye catching appearance
